Water Projects towards the third World Water Forum
In recent years waterprojects have been held in several countries already. Below you find some project descriptions and links or contact persons.
- Junior Chamber Germany: 'Water issues in Dialogue'. In this project discussiongroups were started on several themes, among which Hochwasser (high water).
- Junior Chamber Tunisia: Members distribute leaflets and posters with water saving measures door to door. At the same time, a dialogue with politicians. Result: the law has changed. Construction companies have to put rainwaterbasins on the roofs of new buildings. These basins allow toilets to be flushed with rain water. To provide the tourists with the water they need, the local population is stimulated to save water or use rain water when possible.
- Junior Chamber Iceland: survey Clear Water - wealth for future generations showing Iceland not having a water problem and the importancy of availability of fresh water. Contact: Ingibjörg E. Björnsdottir of JC Reykjavík, or the website of Junior Chamber Iceland.
- The Netherlands: all major charity organisations (Novib, Memisa, Unicef a.o.) have shown to the public that they conduct water projects in developing countries, often together with Dutch water or energy suppliers.
- The 3rd World Water Forum 2003 in Kyoto (JP) named two projects that can be joined by every organisation in the world: Watervoices and Virtual Waterforum.
Your project
Junior Chambers can help by starting alliances with organisations and work out local (fundraising) projects that can be linked to water projects in developing countries. Possible organisations might be Cordaid, Oxfam, Care, Plan International and many others.
If a Junior Chamber wants to start a water action project and needs further support, or if they need specific assistance with contacts, they can contact our helpdesk at info@water-awareness.nl. Tell us about your water project! (PDF file, 32 kB).
Also we would like to be kept up to date with current water projects in order to be able to help you and to present
them during
the JCI 2003 World Congress in Copenhagen.
